1956 Jaguar XK 140 DHC – Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers

1956 Jaguar XK 140 DHC Legendary Drophead Coupé in beautifully appointed specification. Fully restored and scored 981.7 out of 1,000 points at a concours in the USA. Presented in outstanding condition after 33 years of current ownership. XK is a designation that has long been written into automotive history. The name originated with the development of Jaguar’s engine programme in the 1940s, which gave rise to the Le Mans-winning XK engines. First came the XK120, named for its then-sensational top speed of 120 mph, followed by the XK140 in 1954. The formula remained the same, combining a traditional chassis with Jaguar’s well-proven 3.4-litre straight-six. But the XK140 was more than simply a successor. It was roomier and more comfortable, making it even better suited to the long-distance touring that is the hallmark of a true grand tourer. This particular example is an elegant 1956 Drophead Coupé, presented in a beautifully preserved and carefully chosen specification. It is accompanied by extensive documentation chronicling the car’s history and achievements over more than three decades. According to the accompanying documentation, the car underwent a meticulous, comprehensive restoration in 1991. That same year, it was awarded an impressive score of 981.7 out of 1,000 points at a concours event organised by the Jaguar Clubs of North America. The following year, the car came to Denmark, where chassis no. 818228 was registered as OU 58 751 - the same registration it carries today. Very few changes have been made since, and the car remains in a condition that would still stand out at concours level. The light blue paintwork provides an elegant contrast to the car’s extensive brightwork, while the rich, dark wood trim of the cabin presents as new and complements the light-coloured leather. Throughout the current ownership, the car has been serviced and maintained by the same specialist mechanic. It comes with extensive documentation, including its documented concours achievements.
