The Scuola di San Lorenzo is an important artistic movement that arose in Rome between the late seventies and the early eighties, rooted in the popular neighborhood of San Lorenzo. The ex Pastificio Cerere: Artists settle in this old industrial archaeology building on Via degli Ausoni. A "Roman" Factory: The space becomes a large shared creative workshop, similar to a bohemian factory. Official birth: The group officially came to the attention of critics in 1984 with the historic show Ateliers, curated in the spaces of the Pastificio Cerere. Characteristics and Poetics - Return to painting and sculpture: In contrast to the conceptual and minimalist trends prevalent at the time, the Scuola di San Lorenzo promoted a strong return to painting and sculpture as primary languages. - Spiritual and poetic dimension: Their works reject cold or ironic quotation, instead pursuing a material, symbolic, and spiritual inquiry. The human and professional alliance unites seven main exponents of painting and sculpture: • Domenico Bianchi (etching and drypoint) • Bruno Ceccobelli (etching, drypoint and aquatint) • Gianni Dessì (etching, drypoint and aquatint) • Giuseppe Gallo (etching and drypoint) • Nunzio [Di Stefano] (etching and drypoint) • Piero Pizzi Cannella (etching) • Marco Tirelli (etching) Each sheet measures 50 x 35 cm. Signed and numbered (Exemplar 26/100) in pencil on the front. Edizioni della Bezuga 1985. From the historic Capodopera folder, introductory text by Achille Bonito Oliva. Each print is housed in an editorial folder bearing the artist’s name and the engraving technique.
