This relief plaque is cast in patinated spelter after a model by the French sculptor Claude Michel, known as Clodion. The rectangular composition features a dynamic Neoclassical scene depicting a Triton emerging from the sea, blowing a conch shell. He extends his left arm toward a winged putto who rides a stylized sea monster through the waves. The work is finished with a multi-toned brown patina that highlights the musculature of the figures and the fluid texture of the water. The name CLODION is incised in block capital letters in the lower left corner. The plaque is mounted within a black velvet window mat and housed in a molded gilded wood frame. The reverse of the plaque shows the unrefined surface of the spelter casting, secured into the frame with metal pins.
