Majmua Art Gallery, Karachi, Pakistan Acquired from the above in 2015 Ahmed Parvez was a pioneering modernist painter and an influential figure in the development of Pakistani abstract art. Born in Rawalpindi, he began his artistic training in Lahore under the guidance of his uncle, Michael Jacobs, and became associated with the Lahore Group, a circle of progressive artists influenced by Shakir Ali. In 1955, Parvez moved to London, where he established himself within the international art community, exhibiting at the São Paulo Biennale, New Vision Centre, Commonwealth Institute, and Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. Returning to Pakistan in 1964, Parvez developed a more vibrant palette and continued to explore expressive abstraction. He later spent several years in New York, exhibiting at Gallery International in 1968, before returning to Karachi. Recognized for his dynamic compositions and bold use of color, Parvez received Pakistan's prestigious President's Pride of Performance Award in 1978, shortly before his death in 1979.
