(American School, 19th Century), Portrait of Ann Hutchinson Heberton (Philadelphia, 1789-1848) , c. 1830 Depicted seated half-length, wearing a lace bonnet and black dress with lace collar and holding a book. Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 30 in. x 24 3/4 in.; 34 in. x 29 in. (framed) A nearly identical portrait, previously identified as a self-portrait, is in the collection of the Allentown (PA) Art Museum. Provenance: from descendants of Elizabeth Morris Wistar. Condition Canvas unlined and with repaired tear to at sitter's right eye with corresponding inpainting visible under UV light. A few other scattered spots of inpainting in background and long edge of canvas. Flake and loss of paint to forehead and smaller one in hair. Area of paint craquelure to right side of sitter.
