Amphora, Two Art Nouveau Allegorical Maiden Vases Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel / Imperial Amphora (Austro-Hungarian, 1892-1945), circa 1900. Comprising an allegorical vase (impressed numeric marks "468" and "12") depicting a painted image of Gretchen (also known as Margarete) from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's "Faust", and a melon-form vase (impressed numeric marks "587" and "49" and painted marks "FR.", ".44", and painted over mark), having an having a sepia tone painted image attributed to Nikolaus Kannhauser (Austrian-Hungarian, born 1879), depicting a maiden with a crown of flowers. Both appropriately marked. Approximate dimensions: Gretchen vase: 10 x 6 3/4 x 6 3/4 in. (25.4 x 17.1 x 17.1 cm.) Provenance: Private Collection of Mary Ann Campbell, Temple, GA.
