Knots have always been symbols of connection: firm and indissoluble, they symbolize the romantic or friendly bond between two people. For this reason, they were also known as "lover's knots" in Victorian England. This brooch emphasizes this meaning once again by tying the gold and pearl band into a heart-shaped knot. The ends swing elegantly outwards, creating the shape of an elongated brooch - precisely the shape preferred to be worn on the collar of a high-necked blouse in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A small diamond in a star-shaped setting is set above the heart. The brooch is made from 15-karat gold, an alloy that was only used in Great Britain until 1932. We discovered this fine piece of jewellery in the south of England.
