Antique Daisy Ring with Diamonds in Gold & Platinum, c. 1920 & Later

"So count all the loves who will love you From now 'til the end of your life, And when you have added the loves Who have loved you before, Look over there. Somebody loves you more..." (From the musical La Cage aux Folles) The second volume of the Educational Library for German Daughters, published in Augsburg in 1834, contains a chapter on the so-called "language of flowers". During the Biedermeier period, this was one of the most common means of non-verbal communication, as young lovers in particular were often unable to express their feelings openly. This made the symbolic language of flowers all the more important as a means of subtle, silent exchanges of affection. Under the heading "daisy" in the publication mentioned above, you can read about the meaning of this modest meadow flower at the time: It stands for gentleness, joyful youth, quiet joy, modesty - and for love. This ring is also designed in this spirit. Ten sparkling diamonds are arranged in such a way that they are reminiscent of the delicate petals of a daisy. Together, they unfold a lively fire. The stones are set in platinum, which further enhances their radiance. A simple but solid ring band made of high-carat yellow gold creates a harmonious contrast. The diamonds show beautiful old cuts, some of which are probably older than the ring itself and were put together to form the ring around 1920. Only the central stone was replaced in the course of the last century by a modern brilliant-cut diamond and inserted in a new setting. The ring is therefore a fine example of carefully lived history, in which past and present are successfully combined. It lives entirely from the natural beauty of its luxurious materials and its balanced design. In the language of flowers: a meaningful gift of love - which came to us from the Rhineland.
