Canadian. An oil on board of the King's Plate winner "South Shore" painted by Arthur H. Hider (1870-1952). Hider was mainly known as a calendar illustrator, but for several years he painted the winner of the King's Plate for the Ontario Jockey Club of Toronto. The filly "South Shore" was a four-year-old winner at Woodbine Park in Toronto in 1922. She stands alone in King's Plate history as the only winner to have two of her offspring also win the coveted crown in 1929 and 1935. The back of the painting is inscribed, "Gifted to Norman from Arthur, May 28, 1948". Signed, lower right. Titled, lower left. Signed, "To Norman from Arthur May 28 1948", verso.
