The Hague, Jean Neaulme, 1735. 2 volumes in one in-4 format volume, fawn calfskin, decorated spine, red title label, red edges (contemporary binding). First edition of this rare collection bringing together the ancient travel accounts of Benjamin of Tudela, Jean de Plan-Carpin, Vincent de Beauvais, Guillaume de Rubrouck, Marco Polo, Jean de Mandeville, and others, covering Asia and Persia. (Chadenat, no. 1548; Cordier, Sinica, col. 1941–1942.) 5 fold-out maps and 8 large copperplate engravings in the text. Bos du Thil stamp in red ink on the title page. A copy belonging to the Toulouse explorer Gaston de Roquemaurel (1804–1878), with his signature on the title page: this naval officer notably served as Dumont D’Urville’s first officer during the Astrolabe’s second circumnavigation (1837–1840). 4 loosely bound leaves in the *Traité des Tartares*. Binding slightly worn with small losses and scuffs.
