Bold Vintage Curb Link Chain Necklace, Cetaş, Istanbul, c. 1985

All times have their fashions, and all fashions have their effects - including in the field of jewellery. Jewellery from the 1980s is an impressive testimony to a time of optimism and abundance: the oil crisis seemed to have been overcome, Wall Street was flourishing - people were sipping cocktails and paying by credit card, anything seemed possible. At the same time, a new image of women emerged: self-confident and tough, asserting themselves at work and in the face of men. With broad shoulder pads and high heels, she adorned herself with rings, necklaces and brooches in hitherto unfamiliar dimensions, with reflective surfaces of yellow gold and richly set with colored gemstones. A lot of costume jewelry was created, as pieces made from real materials would have been unaffordable for most women because they were intended to look so large and heavy. However, real jewellery was of course also produced in large numbers in the USA and Europe. This necklace is a beautiful example of a classic jewelry design. It is presented in a round armor pattern and is made of shiny, polished 14-karat yellow gold. It comes from the Cetaş jewelry manufactory in Istanbul, which was founded in 1974 and still exists today. A timeless classic that promises to bring joy to many generations to come.
