Chinese Carved Bone Architectural Landscape Diorama with Glass Cloche

Chinese architectural landscape diorama that consists of a reticulated, openwork carving executed in a dense organic material depicting a traditional mountain scene with multiple pagodas, pavilions, pine trees, and small figures. The carving is composed of multiple layers of depth within a narrow, upright slab format, mounted onto a stepped dark-stained wooden plinth. The sculpture is protected by a matching glass cloche which rests upon a turned wooden base with a recessed channel. The reverse of the carving shows a continuation of the pierced decorative elements, including a small boat at the base and additional lattice work.
