This ceramic vase is a Doulton Burslem piece featuring a blush ivory-colored ground and Aesthetic Movement influence. The vessel is designed with a bulbous, squat body and a short neck ending in a wide, ruffled, and heavily gilded rim. The primary decorative element is a high-relief, three-dimensional polychrome figure of a wading bird, such as a stork or heron, standing among reeds and grasses. The bird is depicted with gray plumage, a long red beak, and red legs, set upon a textured reddish-brown base. The reverse of the vase features a hand-painted blue floral motif with gold-painted stamens and highlights on the petals and foliage. The background is a matte-finished cream ground with airbrushed tan and brown highlights. The base bears the Doulton Burslem stamp.
