Elegant Gilded Silver, Pearls & Marcasite Brooch by Theodor Fahrner, c. 1950

The pieces of jewellery made by Theodor Fahrner in Pforzheim are sought-after collector's items. Thanks to the original sales catalogs from the beginning of the century and good scientific research, the work of the designers employed by Fahrner is fully known and can be appreciated in its entirety. The products of the 1930s in particular, which were created under the direction of Gustav Braendle, are characterized by first-class designs at the height of their time. Braendle created a design language in an independent, recognizable style, which stood out in particular through the sophisticated use of materials and was fully committed to the spirit of Art Deco. For example, the so-called "Fahrner filigree jewelry", a style to which the present brooch also corresponds, features the finest cord soldering and chasing, which break up the surfaces and make them appear three-dimensional. This brooch has the shape of an elegant bow. Its surface is decorated with cord soldering, two cultured pearls form an additional eye-catcher next to sparkling marcasites. The elegant brooch is made of gold-washed silver and was created around 1950. Even in the post-war period, the designs from around 1935 continued to be produced unchanged, as is the case with this design. The brooch is a wonderful, unworn example for every good Fahrner collection and a perfectly crafted designer piece of German Art Deco.
