Félicien Bobeldijk (1876–1964) - Brink te Laren

This compact forest scene by Félicien Bobeldijk (1876–1964) shows a densely grown forest, built up of a rhythm of dark, almost vertical trunks. Between the trunks the landscape opens to lighter areas in the background. The forest floor is heavy and shadowed, with scattered accents of rust brown, ocher and muted green. The painting technique is strong and direct. Short, thick impasto strokes and broader brushstrokes alternate, with the almost black trunks standing out sharply against the lighter gray‑white and brown‑green background. The warm reddish-brown tones give the forest a distinctly autumnal character. The limited dimensions and compact composition reinforce the character of a directly painted landscape study. Executed in oil on panel and signed lower left. Dimensions of the work about 17 × 22 cm; with frame about 34 × 39 × 4 cm. Provenance: private collection, F. de V., Eindhoven.
