A 19th century French Empire style portico mantel clock featuring an ebonized wood case with gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts. The structure consists of a rectangular pediment supported by two tapering ebonized columns with cast-brass foliate capitals and bases. The movement is uniquely integrated into the circular brass bob of a gridiron pendulum, which is suspended beneath a decorative gilt-bronze sunburst canopy. The silvered dial features Roman numerals and two winding holes, framed by a chased floral border. The back of the pendulum bob is open to reveal a mechanical strike movement with a silver-tone bell. The rectangular base section positioned directly below the pendulum features a scale with incised text reading DE GRES DU CERCLE for measuring the pendulum arc. The entire assembly is set on a stepped ebonized plinth base adorned with a large scrolling foliate cast-brass mount and rests on four turned gilt-bronze feet. Clock key included.
