France, late 19th century (circa 1870-1900). An elegant Sevres-style porcelain covered urn of lobed baluster form, finely decorated with alternating pink and white vertical panels enriched with hand-painted floral bouquets, gilt scrolling ornament, and delicate polychrome enamels. The domed cover is surmounted by a gilt finial and decorated en suite with conforming paneled ornament. The urn is mounted on a finely cast gilt bronze (ormolu) square base displaying Louis XVI Revival-style motifs. The refined palette, richly gilded decoration, and sculptural silhouette exemplify the luxurious decorative arts produced in France during the Belle Epoque.
