Gobelino - Biblical tapestry - 53 cm - 112 cm - The Last Supper

This Italian Gobelin tapestry, produced during the first half of the 20th century, reproduces one of the most emblematic scenes of the Christian tradition: the Last Supper. Clearly inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's famous Renaissance composition, the work translates into textile language all the narrative and symbolic richness of the biblical episode, presenting Christ at the center of the table surrounded by the twelve apostles, captured in an instant of intense interaction and movement. The composition unfolds in perspective within a classical architecture of sober lines, where spatial depth leads the eye toward the central figure of Jesus. The characters appear grouped in different attitudes of dialogue and astonishment, generating a dynamism that contrasts with the serenity of the protagonist. The color palette, dominated by earthy tones, ochres, reddish browns and dull greens, provides a warm and evocative atmosphere, characteristic of decorative textile manufactures of the period. The fabric presents the detailing typical of Italian gobelins intended for domestic and religious ornamentation, with a careful translation of volumes, the folds of the garments and the architectural elements into the textile weave. The whole is framed by dark wooden moldings that enhance its decorative character and facilitate its mural display. For its universal theme, its inspiration in one of the most important icons in the history of Western art and its artisanal quality, this tapestry constitutes a piece of great appeal for classical interiors, religious art collections or environments where the Italian decorative tradition of the 20th century is appreciated. Its monumental presence and its rich narrative make the work a prominent focal point, capable of bringing depth, spirituality and elegance to any room. Tracked shipping and careful packaging.
