Warren County, late 20th century. lead glazed earthenware with copper green, brown, orange and yellow Colonial style slip and glazes, all signed and dated to the undersides, including (2) pottery jars with lug handles, both decorated in stylized floral motifs (tallest 9 x 6 x 6 in.); and a deep rim plate, with sgraffito decorated German inscriptions around a central bird and floral design (11 1/2 in.). From the Featured Collection of Sharon and Richard Densmore, Charleston, South Carolina Continuing the traditions of American potters dating to 1630, Greg Shooner and Mary Spellmire-Shooner re-create authentic redware pottery at their Oregonia, Ohio studio. Greg and Mary use their years of pottery experience to make a ware that is unrivaled in its interpretation of rare antiques. They work alone, with a passionate commitment to quality and artistic control. A lifelong interest in art led them separately to pottery, then together to the study of redware.
