Gregynog Press.- Fortescue (Hon J.W.) The Story of a Red Deer, unique copy bound for presentation, from an edition limited to 250 copies, 11 colour print illustrations by Dorothy Burroughes, with publisher's list of books 1923-1936, prospectus (lightly foxed), A.L.s and T.L. discussing the binding and presentation of the book, 2 press cuttings of Burroughes's illustrations, and photograph of Burroughes at ?Exmoor, all loosely inserted, few ff. foxed, scattered spots elsewhere, handsomely bound by George Fisher at the Gregynog Press Bindery in original brown morocco, covers tooled in gilt with three vertical strips of ornamental tools, the central strip with similar horizontal blocks at top and bottom, spine with 4 raised bands and similar motif in gilt to central compartment, turn-ins tooled in gilt with same design, signed by the binder at rear turn-in, t.e.g., others uncut, minor discolouration to joints, preserved in cloth-drop-back box, [Harrop 35], 4to, Newtown, Gregynog Press, 1935. *** A unique presentation copy, specially bound, but with a different design to those of the 15 special bindings. A pencilled note in the book states that the binding was intended for George V but after his death it was given to the illustrator and the correspondence loosely inserted discusses this, asking Dorothy Harrop's opinion. She replies that "This is the first example I have come across as a presentation volume to the crown" although she does not dismiss the idea, concluding "I am sorry not to be able to provide you with any proof positive".
