Jan Schoonhoven (1914–1994) - Exclusiv - Prägedruck 1972...

This exceptionally finely structured blind-embossed print by Jan Schoonhoven from 1972 is a characteristic example of the reduced, geometric visual language of the Dutch artist and a notable representative of the ZERO movement. Blind-embossed print on copper plate printing carton Bottom right hand-signed and dated in pencil “Schoonhoven 1972” Bottom left designated “M IV” and numbered. About the work: The almost completely white composition consists of a multitude of small, regularly arranged rectangular depressions and elevations. They form a precise, grid-like relief that extends across the entire image surface. At first glance the work appears almost monochrome and perfectly tranquil. Only upon closer inspection does the fine three-dimensional structure unfold. What is especially fascinating is the interplay of light and shadow. Depending on the angle of light and the viewing direction, the individual embossings appear differently and create subtle changes within the white surface. The strictly geometric arrangement thereby gains a surprisingly lively effect. Publisher: edition galerie m, Bochum. Manufacturing: Tünn Konerding Framing: The work is professionally and high-quality framed in an exclusive Swiss hand-made Plexiglas showpiece. The transparent presentation emphasizes the minimalist character of the white relief structure and enables a particularly elegant viewing of the fine surface design. Plexiglas showpiece dimensions: approx. 60 × 51 cm. About the artist: Jan Schoonhoven (1914–1994) is among the most important Dutch artists of the European post-war avant-garde. As a co-founder of the Dutch Nul group, he was closely linked with the international ideas of the ZERO movement. Schoonhoven became known especially for his monochrome white reliefs and his consistent engagement with grid, rhythm, repetition, light, and structure. He transferred these principles into a precise, unmistakable visual language in his works on paper and in his print graphics. His works are highly valued by collectors of ZERO art, minimalism, and post-war avant-garde worldwide. Works by Jan Schoonhoven are among others in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag (Kunstmuseum Den Haag), and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York.
