Barcelona, March 20, 1927 – ibid., December 12, 2007) was one of the most prominent painters, draftsmen, and printmakers of the postwar avant-garde and informalism in Spain. Trajectory and Artistic Style • Origins and training: He grew up in an artisanal environment; his father was a gilder and his uncles were wall painters, which marked his early contact with textures and pigments. He studied at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios de la Llotja in Barcelona. • Pictorial evolution: His beginnings were linked to realist figuration and socially themed subjects. However, after a stay in Paris in 1953 thanks to a grant from the Institut Français, his style changed drastically after discovering cubism and contemporary currents.
