Joseph Antoine MORIO DE L'ISLE, Major General in the service - Lot 341

Joseph Antoine MORIO DE L'ISLE, Major General in the service of the King of Westphalia (Jérôme), who made him Count of MARIENBORN. He was assassinated. Elder brother of General Annet Morio de L'Isle [Chantelle (Allier) 1771–1811] - Letter written and signed "Morio" in his own hand, 2 pages, in-8 format, with the letterhead "The Colonel of the Engineers, Morio," Hanover, 7 Frimaire Year 12 (Nov. 29, 1803): “I have just received your letter of the 23rd Brumaire. I would be very happy to be the godfather of your child, but I do not know if I will be able to travel to Chantelle at that time. If it’s a boy, you can wait for me; if it’s a girl, you can have her baptized and have someone else stand in for me to hold the child. Among the names you give her, you must include the name Malvina. You could give her three names: that of her godmother, who will surely be Mrs. Blanc; mine—Joséphine; and Malvina’s, which will be the third. She must always be called Malvina. If it’s a boy, then we’ll baptize him together. I’ll write to your husband next week. B[?] hasn’t replied to me about his son. He must have received the letters from the minister that I sent him. Give my love to your mother-in-law and your husband, as well as to my father, his wife, and my sisters. Farewell, my dear friend; believe that my affection for you will never change.”
