Léon BÉRARD (Sauveterre-de-Béarn (64) 1876–1960) Member of the National Assembly for the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Senator, and Writer. 2 Letters A.S.: Letter A.S. on Senate letterhead, from MAULÉON (Basses-Pyrénées) on April 24, 1929. 2 pages, in-8°: “Dear Sir and friend. I have learned that you may be considering publishing the play by my faithful collaborator and very dear friend Eugène BERTEAUX, recently performed at the Théâtre de l’Odéon, *YAN, Son of the Sea*. It may be that this work is not likely to appeal to a wide audience. I believe that more than one reader, like me, would appreciate its profound lyricism and sincere poetry…” + Letter from A.S. on “SÉNAT” letterhead, Paris, May 17, 1929. 2 pp., in-8°. “My Dear Friend, as you know, a National Eucharistic Congress is to take place in Bayonne in early July. Bishop GIEURE (of Bayonne) did me the honor of asking which Senators I thought should be invited! I provided him with a list that, I believe, contains no errors, though it may be incomplete. And I promised him that I would ask you for a list that, in my opinion, would offer more reliable guarantees. Would you be willing to engage in this discernment, as Bossuet would have said, and let me know the result as soon as possible?...”
