Long Venetian Gold Necklace, Germany c. 1980

This is a long necklace made from high-carat gold. The chain shines in a rich, warm gold tone and features a classic octagonal pattern, also known as the "Venetian pattern". This luxurious and elegant chain pattern probably originated in Venice, as the current trade name suggests. In this type of chain, the links are arranged in a square shape with high side walls and connected to each other in an offset pattern. When a Venetian chain is set in motion, these rectangular links shift into one another to great effect, giving this chain shape a solid, flowing appearance. The 71-centimeter-long necklace can be worn on its own or with a pendant. Weighing 17.5 grams, it has a pleasant, high-quality feel. We found this beautiful necklace here in Berlin.
