MAC-MAHON, Duke of Magenta. RHÔNE. “Speech delivered in LYON (Rhône) by Marshal de MAC-MAHON, President of the Republic, in response to the speech by the President of the Chamber of Commerce.” “…The Government recalls the triumphs achieved by Lyon’s industry at the Expositions in Vienna and Philadelphia. Your products will once again have to compete with foreign rivals at this 1878 World’s Fair, which promises to be a resounding success and for which the participation of foreign nations is assured on a vast scale. The great powers have demonstrated their interest in our endeavor by entrusting, for the most part, the presidency of their sections to princes from imperial and royal families…. The showcase of Lyon’s commerce is a source of pride for your city, and you will bring it new splendor by emerging victorious from this glorious competition. ” — Printed in MELUN, by H. MICHELIN.
