Natsume - Wood

An elegant maki-e lacquer sakazuki set, comprising a square stand with four large circular and floral-shaped openings, surmounted by three stacked lacquered sake cups. The glossy black surface is decorated in gold and polychrome lacquer with refined naturalistic motifs arranged within large fan-shaped reserves, alternating with delicately stylized pine trees extending across the entire structure. The three cups, finished with red and gold lacquer interiors, are neatly stacked at the center of the stand, creating a harmonious composition of striking visual balance and elegance. Japanese lacquerware (漆器, shikki) represents one of Japan’s most celebrated artistic traditions. These works combine durability and brilliance with intricate decorative techniques such as maki-e and nashiji. ---The sakazuki set is in very good condition.
