Contact us: artisartgallery.assistant@gmail.com Biography of the painter Nguyễn Việt Lâm (Vietnamese painter – Oil painter) Nguyễn Việt Lâm (Born in 1993) The harmony between Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism Nguyễn Việt Lâm is an emerging figure on the Vietnamese contemporary art scene. Belonging to the 1990s generation, he embodies this new creative impulse that fuses classical technical heritage with a modern, urban sensibility. Education and Training Born in Vietnam, Lâm developed early a rigorous mastery of oil painting. Trained in an environment where technical discipline is paramount, he learned to detach from it to explore a more instinctive path. His birth year, 1993, places him at the crossroads of Vietnam’s cultural opening, influencing his taste for globally iconic figures revisited through a local and personal prism. Style and Artistic Vision Nguyễn Việt Lâm’s work is distinguished by an expressive, textured approach to oil painting. His works are not mere portraits; they are explorations of material. • Knife and Impasto Technique: Lâm uses thick layers of paint (impasto), creating a nearly sculptural relief on the canvas. Each stroke of brush or knife brings a raw energy and a dynamic of movement. • Chromatic Palette: He favors vibrant and contrasting colors. Deep blues, bright reds, and solar yellows are often seen, sometimes enhanced with gold touches that recall the influence of traditional Asian art in a modern context. • Favored Subjects: The artist is particularly renowned for his Mickey Mouse series. By deconstructing this universal figure of entertainment, he transforms it into a subject for artistic reflection, blending childhood nostalgia with adult emotional complexity. Emotion through Matter Unlike traditional Pop Art, often smooth and industrial, Lâm’s style is distinctly human and imperfect. His backgrounds are treated as abstract landscapes where colors overlap, flow, and clash, revealing the artist’s physical trace. "For me, painting is a dialogue between the structure of the icon and the chaos of emotion." Recognition Today, Nguyễn Việt Lâm’s works are prized by collectors seeking a fusion of sophisticated Street Art and classical oil painting. His 'Pop-Expressionist' style brings bold modernity to contemporary interiors while preserving the nobility of the traditional medium.
