Canadian. An important pair of watercolours of Mary-Jane and Robert Samuel McLaughlin, children of Robert and Mary McLaughlin — Robert McLaughlin (1836-1921) was an Ontario industrialist and the founder of the McLaughlin Carriage Company. His son Robert Samuel was also a Canadian businessman and philanthropist who advised his father to start the McLaughlin Motor Car Company in 1907, and he eventually became President of General Motors Canada. Mary Jane (1867-1957) is shown in a pink dress holding red tulips, with a pink ribbon in the corner, while Robert Samuel (1871-1972) is in a blue dress and holding a straw boater.
