Free-form carved and polished from a single block of polychromed jasper from Madagascar. The specimen features a varied color composition, with shades of pink, salmon, cream, greenish-gray and reddish-brown. The different colorations alternate in wavy bands, irregular areas and small circular motifs, forming different patterns on each side of the stone. One face is characterized by a light green central area, surrounded by pink and cream bands; on the opposite side there is instead a darker green area, accompanied by ochre and orange inclusions with brown-reddish outlines. The polishing highlights the continuity of the veining and the natural contrasts of the material. Polychromed jasper is a compact siliceous rock, composed mainly of microcrystalline quartz. Its various tones are due to the presence of iron oxides and other mineral inclusions formed during the rock’s various geological stages. The flat base allows the specimen to be displayed vertically without support. Origin: Madagascar Material: polychromed jasper Work: free-form carved and polished Color: pink, salmon, cream, greenish-gray, ochre and brown Condition: good; veining, color variations and small irregularities are natural characteristics of the material.
