All auctions / Jewellery & Gems / Precious Art Deco Necklace With Sapphire & Diamonds From Moscow, Circa 1930

Cool and clear as a winter morning, that's how this necklace shines and charms. A powerfully designed pendant in the typical shapes of Art Deco is set on a delicate chain. Sparkling diamonds form a downward tapering frame around a midnight blue sapphire. Below, on a sparkling pendulum, a large drop cut diamond is set as a counterpart to the sapphire. The face of the pendant is made of silver on gold. The white metal thus offers the diamonds the best opportunity to show off their white fire, while the gold back prevents the jewellery from rubbing off on skin or clothes. This trick had already been developed in the Rococo period and was for a long time the usual method of making diamond jewellery. The sapphire alone is set in yellow gold, which gives the piece a certain warmth. The pendant, according to its hallmark, was made in Moscow, in the years between 1927 and 1958. Based on the cuts of the diamonds and its design language, we date it to the 1930s. We discovered it in Munich. It is in very good condition and is accompanied by an independent certificate on the quality of the materials.
