RAM PIANO COMPANY COIN-OPERATED NICKELODEON-STYLE AUTOMATIC ORCHESTRION Fully Restored — Piano, Organ Pipes, Marimba, Glockenspiel, Drums, Cymbals & Percussion — Approximately 20 Music Rolls — Keys Included An impressive and highly visual coin-operated Nickelodeon-style automatic orchestrion manufactured by the Ram Piano Company of Ceres, California, retaining a colorful Ram Piano Company decal above the keyboard. Housed in an imposing oak cabinet, the instrument features clustered columns with gilt capitals, carved and molded architectural details, and three arched leaded stained-glass upper panels revealing ranks of organ pipes within. An additional decorative leaded-glass panel is incorporated beneath the keyboard. Large side-mounted bass drums with mechanical beaters and a prominently mounted brass cymbal complete the dramatic presentation. This substantial automatic musical instrument was designed to reproduce the sound and effect of a small orchestra from a single coin-operated cabinet. Its extensive instrumentation includes player piano, organ pipes, marimba, glockenspiel, drums, cymbals, and additional percussion, together with soft and mandolin-style piano rail effects. Equipped with a 25-cent coin-operated mechanism and accompanied by approximately 20 music rolls, with individual rolls containing multiple musical selections, providing a substantial repertoire for operation and display. The orchestrion has undergone an extensive restoration and has been professionally tuned. The restoration encompasses its elaborate mechanical music system, percussion components, piano and organ elements while retaining the impressive period character of the oak cabinet, stained glass, decorative appointments, and exposed pipework. According to prior ownership information, this instrument originally sold for approximately $65,000, reflecting the substantial craftsmanship, complexity, scale, and visual presence of this extraordinary automatic musical instrument. A striking example of American automatic music equipment and Nickelodeon-style entertainment, combining exceptional visual presence with an unusually extensive assortment of instruments and mechanical effects. Its monumental architectural cabinet, stained glass, exposed organ pipes, percussion, and automatic operation make it particularly well suited for an important automatic-music collection, museum, entertainment venue, or period interior. CONDITION: Very good overall. Extensively restored and professionally tuned. Cabinet exhibits scattered age-related marks and minor losses consistent with age.
