Digital print produced in 2014 and mounted on aluminium (Dibond). On four labels, titled and numbered, signed in felt-tip pen with copyright stamps. Dimensions: 22 x 17.3 in (Slight indentation in the bottom corner) Print produced in 2014 for the François Truffaut exhibition at the Cinémathèque française, to mark the 30th anniversary of the filmmaker’s death, Paris, 8 October 2014 – 15 January 2015. This single image encapsulates the incredible challenge Jean-Luc Godard posed to traditional filmmaking methods. The scene was photographed in the photographer’s studio on Rue Campagne-Première. With his right hand, Godard pushes the camera dolly whilst, with his left, he holds the script from which he reads, live, the lines intended for Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg. A filming style as daring as it is improvised, which has come to symbolise the creative freedom of the French New Wave.
