A silver gelatin print produced in 2013 from the negative on high-quality baryta paper, mounted on an aluminium plate and framed. On two labels on the reverse: signed in pencil, titled, with copyright stamps. Dimensions: 19.7 x 23.6 in Produced in 2013 for the ‘Raymond Cauchetier’ exhibition at the Salon de la Photo, each print was produced under the supervision of Raymond Cauchetier and is of a quality suitable for collectors. Printer: Thomas Consani, then at the Central Dupon Image laboratory (now a printer at the Picto laboratory). The photograph was taken at the Valmy Footbridge, Charenton-le-Pont, on Wednesday 26 April 1961 at 9.00 am. Quote from Raymond Cauchetier ‘Wednesday 26 April 1961 – 9 am – Valmy Footbridge – Charenton-le-Pont: In those days, I was still working with the Rolleiflex that had served me faithfully during the Indochina campaign. To photograph this now-famous scene, as the camera had no motor, I had to wind the hand crank after each shot. I was therefore only able to take one photograph of the finish of each of the four races filmed in succession by François Truffaut. Like sports photographers, I had to choose each time the 500th of a second that seemed to me to be the best.”
