Boldly hand-painted in vivid hues of scarlet, olive, and emerald, this expressive seated figure of a cavalier captures the swagger and rest of a soldier at ease. The subject is depicted seated atop a textured trunk, holding a tankard in one hand, and dressed in 17th-century attire including a wide-brimmed hat with a feather, belted tunic, high boots, and flowing cape. Signed to the base "Cavalier by Studio Potter, Roy Johnson" in freehand script. A striking example of mid-century English studio pottery, combining character study with decorative charm.
