Robot Vollautomat Star II + Schneider Kreuznach Xenon...

A legendary and rare Robot Vollautomat Star II 35mm rangefinder camera (24x24mm square format), manufactured by Otto Berning in West Germany. This specific example carries the unique serial number 2-184038. The "2-" prefix was at the time specifically used in the well-known production series from which large quantities were supplied to government services, including the East German Stasi (Ministerium für Staatssicherheit) for secret surveillance operations. The camera is equipped with the highly sought-after and bright Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 1:1.9 / 40mm lens (serial number: 4364975). Lens is in top condition. Condition and functionality: Mechanical: The iconic internal wind motor/clockwork runs exceptionally smoothly and powerfully. The shutter cocks and releases perfectly. All shutter speeds sound accurate to the ear. Optical: The lens is in absolutely perfect condition. The glass is completely clear, without scratches, without mould and absolutely free of the notorious internal haze. The diaphragm and focusing rings turn buttery-smoothly. Cosmetic: In very fine condition. The body shows very minimal signs of use, the covering is intact and the paint/chrome parts shine beautifully. See the photos for an exact impression. The photos form a cohesive whole with the description. A rare opportunity for the serious camera collector to acquire a historically important top model in mechanically and optically perfect condition!
