This Vietnamese blue and white stoneware jarlet dates to the late 15th century and is a characteristic example of Annamese export ware. The small, globular vessel features underglaze cobalt blue decoration on a creamy buff ground. The central body is painted with stylized four-petaled flowers, scrolling tendrils, and dot motifs. A band of simplified lotus petals or cloud scrolls encircles the shoulder. The jarlet has a short, unglazed neck and a recessed, unglazed foot. This specific type of ceramic is widely associated with 15th-century shipwreck recoveries, most notably the Hoi An shipwreck. The underside of the base is marked with the handwritten word VIETNAM in black ink and a square yellow paper inventory label bearing the handwritten red numbers 507 and 2.
