St. Louis, Missouri Territory. Bank of Missouri. 1818 $1. PCGS Currency Fine 12. No. 4406. Plate A. Offered here is an exceedingly rare piece which predates Missouri statehood in 1821. This note features the signature of Auguste Chouteau as president of the bank. Chouteau had been a successful fur trader prior to the purchase of Louisiana by the United States in 1803. A vignette depicting a bust of Jefferson can be observed at center with a maritime scene further in the background. Estimate: $400 - $600. Provenance: From the Caine Collection. Ex. Eric P.
