Style of Lee Krasner: Abstract Composition

Style of Lee Krasner: Abstract Composition

Style of Lee Lenore Krasner (American, 1908 - 1984): Abstract Composition, 1964. Oil on canvas, signed and dated verso, two labels with possible invenory numbers verso, framed. Lee Krasner's place in American art can be qualified in many ways, including through her role as a forerunner of the first original American art movement, Abstract Expressionism. This style can be seen as a manifestation of the horror felt in the wake of WWII, a horror unique to most Americans. The calculated slaughter of innocent Jews, the use of the first weapon of mass destruction on the citizens of Japan, the first direct attack on US soil---these were all unprecedented events in the minds of most Americans. Emotions of helplessness and confusion overwhelmed these artists and created a state of mind that we can identify with today, in the wake of the tragedies of our own era. 24.5 x 28.5 inches framed; 20 x 23.75 inches canvas. Private dealer, United States. Excellent condition, no notable flaws. NOTE: If documentation is not listed, the lot is sold without documents. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions prior to bidding. Color fidelity of photos presented is not guaranteed. Lack of a condition statement does not imply that a lot is perfect. Please examine photos, read descriptions, and contact the Gallery with any questions prior to bidding. All sales are final. Winning bidders will be sent invoices from our gallery. Credit cards are accepted for invoices under $1000. Higher amounts must be paid by e-check or wire transfer. Condition Request Condition Report Excellent condition, no notable flaws.
