Taxidermy: A Cased Common Roach (Rutilus rutilus), mid-20th century, by John Cooper & Sons, 28 Radnor Street, St Luke's, London, EC, (Griggs), (Rutilus rutilus), Taxidermy: A Cased Common Roach (Rutilus rutilus), mid-20th century, by John Cooper & Sons, 28 Radnor Street, St Luke's, London, EC, (Griggs), a skin-mount preserved and mounted within a naturalistic setting amidst reeds and grasses, set above a pebbled riverbed, mounted against a graduated pale-green painted backdrop, enclosed within a typical ebonised bow-fronted three-glass display case with verre eglomise border, 53.5cm by 14cm by 31.5cm, taxidermist's full paper trade label to case interior upper right. This case is of the William Griggs era, who took over the running of John Cooper from around 1933 and carried on trading from Bath Road, Hounslow until he passed away in 1953, William (Bertie) Griggs was regarded as one of the master exponents of preserving fish and his skills can be clearly seen within this case
