Taxidermy: A Late Victorian Swift Parrot (Lathamus discolor), circa 1870-1900, (Lathamus discolor), Lathamus discolor), circa 1870-1900, Taxidermy: A Late Victorian Swift Parrot (Lathamus discolor), circa 1870-1900, an unusual and rare to find full-mount adult, posed looking straight ahead, perched upon a small moss covered branch, set above grass and fern covered groundwork below, enclosed beneath a period oval glass dome, with later ebonised supporting base, 21cm by 12cm by 33.5cm overall height. The species is critically endangered, and the severe predation by introduced Sugar gliders on breeding females and nests in some locations has demonstrated an unexpected but potentially serious new threat. Genetic evidence for the effective population size suggests that the minimum potential population size is now around 300–500 individual swift parrots. Habitat for the critically endangered swift parrot is being "knowingly destroyed" by logging because of government failures to manage the species' survival
