THAILAND. 8 Baht (Tot), ND (1863). Bangkok Mint. Rama IV. NGC MS-63. Fr-15; KM-Y-15. Variety with 9 rays emitting from crown. A distinguished RARITY within the Thai series, struck only three years after mechanical minting technology was first introduced at the Royal Thai Mint. The elephant is a tad weakly detailed, as is the norm for the type (we note that examples with a bold elephant are typically official restrikes of 1894), but the surfaces are admirably Choice with fresh satiny luster throughout and a pleasing goldenrod coloration. A difficult issue to acquire in this quality, and approaching the peak of the certified census. Estimate: $8,000 - $12,000. Click here for certification details from NGC.
