Canadian. A rare example of floral painted furniture from the Amish community near Petersburg in Waterloo County. Formerly a two-door cupboard that was reduced in size in the mid 20th century, the cupboard is made of heavy pine with substantial dovetail joints and retains the original drawer, shelves, and wooden knobs. Exceptional painted surface with leaves and floral basket motifs. Also includes the drawer from the missing half. Illustrated in "A Splendid Harvest - Germanic Folk and Decorative Arts in Canada", Bird and Kobayashi, plate 84, page 116 and in "Canadian Country Furniture" by Michael Bird, plate 406, page 251.
