BRAND MARK: legendary "ostrich stamp" (Ostrich mark) from WMF The flightless bird you see is a running ostrich. The triangle (often a diamond or heraldic shield that resembles a triangle) and the letter 'G' stand for the German city Geislingen an der Steige, the home base where the factory was founded. Why an ostrich? This is a pun on the surname of co-founder Daniel Straub ("Strauß" is the German word for ostrich). What does this stamp say about your coffee service? • The Period: This specific stamp with the running ostrich and the letter 'G' was mainly used between 1900 and 1930. • The Style: You are dealing with antique tableware from the heyday of Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) or the early Art Deco. These were the absolute golden years of the WMF silver factory. • The Material: Tableware with this mark is almost always made of high-quality silver-plated metal (such as brass or Britannia metal as a base, covered with a thin layer of pure silver). This excellent set perfectly embodies the geometric minimalism and clean lines that are characteristic of the heyday of the Art Deco period. The items are vintage or antique, meaning they are rarely in mint condition and show some wear. We strive to describe any flaws we see, but please view all photos and feel free to ask us any questions.
