Wall Mirror

Various surfaces - such as water - have been used for thousands of years to produce a reflection; from 6000 BC onwards, humans created reflections in more sophisticated ways, manufacturing mirrors from glass, polished stone and metals. Over time, glass became the most desirable material for mirrors, providing a smooth surface that was also durable. Since the 1800s, mirrors have been made from glass coated with a metal layer to increase reflectivity. Mirrors can be found across the modern home, particularly hung on the walls of the house. Early wall mirrors were a drastic development shifting away from the commonly-used hand mirror. These mirrors not only created a reflection, but also gave the impression of a larger room as well as becoming decorative pieces. Highly-ornate wall mirrors - such as those produced by the glass makers of Venice - continue to be a popular room feature in the modern home.
