When an item of serious value hits the auction block at no reserve what becomes of it? Do bidders realise its true value? Is it possible for the item to reach its actual worth?
Auction house Catawiki recently hosted a no reserve auction of classic cars. Below are some of the extraordinary vehicles, alongside their extraordinary prices.

This Jaguar MK V was produced between 1948 and 1951 and was revealed together with the XK120 at the London Motor Show of 1947.
The MK V was fully constructed from steel and the design was akin to the earlier SS models, with flowing lines and a straight chrome grill with the Jaguar emblem on it. It has 16-inch wheels, which are a lot smaller than the 18-inch variants on the MK IV.
The prices of these Jaguar MK5 DHC convertibles are starting to increase. Every year, only a few are offered globally, which makes this particular Jaguar rather unique.
Though offered at no reserve, this classic car achieved £77,763.

Another Jaguar, this 1970 E-type Roadster has the 4.2 L 6-cylinder engine.
The interior in this car is particularly sharp, with no holes or tears in the black leather.
The winning bid brought in £64,202.

This 1974 Chevrolet Corvette - 350 V8 Automatic was purchased in the West of the United States and was previously owned by a true enthusiast who invested a lot of money and time in the car. The Corvette is a true survivor with 70 thousand miles under its belt.
This ‘74 Corvette sold for £18,541.

Only 13,788 units were produced of this Mercedes convertible in 1986. The R107 replaced the W113 (Pagoda) in 1971, and was succeeded in 1981 by the W126C for coupe models (SLC), and by the R129 for convertible models (SL) in 1989.
The car was offered by Catawiki with original manual, the original Becker radio, booklets, original toolkit and invoices.
It achieved £23,509 under the hammer.

Finally, this two-door custom two-tone editioned Fiat - 500 R from 1973, finely restored with great care, sold for £6,329. Though that's not to say the list of no reserve classic cars recently offered at Catawiki ends here!
