Epping-based auction house Boningtons has a forthcoming sale on 14 November brimming with fine art and antiques of a quintessentially British nature.
Though there are nearly 300 lots on offer, we’ve selected a few items that would make for great Christmas presents, though they might not exactly fit in your stocking…

This 18th-century Irish chest of drawers is a superlative artisan piece. It’s cross-banded in ebony with elaborate brass handles and escutcheons on a well-carved shell frieze on cabriole legs. It measure 93 cm in height, 115 cm in width, and 58 cm in depth.

From the circle of Paolo Caliari comes this Study of an Angel, possibly a fragment. It’s an oil on canvas and bears two wax collector seals to canvas and the stretcher on the verse. The artist’s handling on light and fabric is particularly noteworthy, suggesting a heavenly and golden or divine aura.
It comes from a local private collection and has been recorded in the present vendor’s family since the late 19th century.

This exquisite ring would surely be welcomed upon any woman’s finger. It comprises an emerald-cut central stone between two trillion cuts. The central stone is 3.64ct, D colour VVS2 in unhallmarked platinum mount. The total ring weight 4.2 g.

Another stunning piece of jewellery, perhaps a perfect companion to the diamond ring, is this bangle, unhallmarked in 18ct gold. The hinged open front bangle has a beaded edge set with diamonds to intricate filigree work. The outer diamond low facet cuts with modern brilliant cuts to the centre. The total diamond carat weight is approx. 5ct.
