Diamonds have always been one of the most successful auction categories. Only recently we saw one of the most expensive diamonds in history, a pink diamond of 18.96 carats, sell in Geneva for a world record of US$50 million.
Now there’s a bespoke ring made entirely of diamonds.

Apple’s Chief Design Officer, Sir Jony Ive, and renowned industrial designer Marc Newson curated the (RED) auction five years ago. For this year’s iteration of the sale in Miami, the duo designed a unique ring made exclusively for (RED) by Diamond Foundry.
Consistent with their passion for transforming raw materials into objects of value, Ive and Newson’s design is a singular and clear, literally. It is a diamond block faceted with several thousand facets (2,000-3,000 in fact, which has never before been seen on a single piece). The ring ‘removes’ material, rather than adds it. It is made completely out of diamonds, an ambition made possible by the extraordinary scale of the stone.

The ring went under the hammer recently on the night of 5 December. It sold over its estimate of £117,925 to £196,540 for a whopping £201,400. The ring will be made to fit the lucky buyer (up to a size 5).
