Complete eight-volume set, devoted to the political history of France from the fall of the Empire to the Revolution of 1830 and to the end of Charles X’s reign. Illustrated edition ornamented with 32 standalone portraits representing the principal figures of this period, notably Napoleon, Louis XVIII, and the major political and military figures of the Restoration. The eight volumes are preserved in beautiful, uniform period bindings in half green morocco, spines with raised bands richly adorned with decorative motifs and gilded rules, titles and volume numbers in gilt. A particularly decorative set for a library. The tables of contents are present at the end of the volumes; Volume VIII bears the inscription "Tome huitième et dernier". Condition: bindings homogeneous and well preserved overall, with normal signs of wear. Interiors showing foxing that is sometimes substantial and varies by page and volume, clearly visible in the photographs. Paper remains sturdy and text perfectly legible. Beautiful 19th-century historical set, sought after both for Lamartine’s work, its important iconography, and the decorative quality of its eight uniform bindings.
