Canadian. A pastel on paper by Alfred Worsley Holdstock (1820-1901) titled by the artist, “Grand Falls, Nameauken River, C.W.” (Canada West), lower left and signed, "A W Holdstock", lower right. Strong colours with a man with a fishing pole standing on the rock ledge shore. Alfred Worsley Holdstock was a prolific 19th-century landscape painter and educator who became a significant figure in documenting the early Canadian frontier. Born in Bath, England, and educated at Oxford University, Holdstock immigrated to Montreal in 1850. Ontario. 3rd quarter 19th century.
